William Dennis “Bill” Reed, Sr., 63 of 99 Sam Reed Rd. Cherokee, NC passed away October 4, 2010 after an extended illness.
Bill was the son of the late Sam and Lucinda Bird Reed of Cherokee, NC and the husband of Frances L. Reed.
Bill was an Army veteran having served twice in Vietnam earning various medals to include a Purple Heart. Bill had obtained a BS from Montreat College and had attended Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence Kansas. He had served as the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indian’s Transfer Station Manager before his illness.
Bill is also survived by son, William Dennis “Denny” Reed, Jr. of Shelby, NC and companion Doris Arch, daughter Lori Ann Reed of 101 Sam Reed Rd. Cherokee, NC., brother, Robert Bruce Reed of Cherokee, NC, sisters, Bessie Welch, Mary Grauman, Iva Gentry, Matilda Calhoun, Linda Kersey and Julia Lossiah all of Cherokee, NC,
Bill was also preceded in death by granddaughters, Robyn Denise Reed and Dinah Renee Lossie and one sister Ollie Reed.
A wake service will be held at the Pentecostal Holiness Church at 3548 Wolftown Rd., Cherokee, NC. Starting at 6PM Tuesday October 5, 2010 Bill’s body will remain at the church till the hour of service on Wednesday October 6, 2010 starting at 2PM. Officiating the services will be Pastors Don Ensley and Betty Drake and the Rev. James “Bo” Parris.
The service will conclude at the Reed Family Cemetery on Sam Reed Rd., Cherokee, NC.
